"Jb Vassou: Louis XVI Period Chest Of Drawers, Rosewood & Gilt Bronze Marquetry - Jme Stamp"
Chest of drawers in rosewood marquetry in frames of mahogany and boxwood fillets, spindle legs with simulated fluting, rich gilded bronze trim, covered with very fine grained pink gray marble. Beautiful Parisian production from the beginning of the Louis XVI period. Slight central projection, reminiscences of the Transition style: our chest of drawers dates from the early 1780s, before the appearance of the fashion for mahogany chests of drawers a few years later. The chest of drawers opens with 3 drawers in the belt and 2 large drawers (without visible crosspiece) below. Very elegant, its proportions are perfect, without any fault of taste. It is a beautiful model: the marquetry mainly in rosewood makes it very elegant and light. Our beautiful chest of drawers bears the stamp of Jean-Baptiste Vassou and the jurande hallmark (JME) (Jean-Baptiste Vassou (1739-1807), received Master in 1767). Elegant forms, perfect proportions, excellent quality of execution: we recognize the signature of a very good Parisian cabinetmaker. Pink marble is rare and a real refinement which differentiates it from current productions. It is in excellent condition. The buffer varnish was redone by our cabinetmaker. Bronzes gilded with original fine gold. Original marble. Width: 128cm Height: 84.5cm Depth: 54cm
