"Straw Marquetry Box, Early 19th Century"
Early 19th century straw marquetry box. This box, decorated on all sides, offers a surprise when you open it. The lid releases a flap on the front very nicely decorated with a landscape which opens onto two drawers. In its inner part, the lid is decorated with a magnificent colorful landscape and reveals six compartments all inlaid with flowers, quivers, and in the center a helmet with a quiver and arrows on the sides. The lids lift up and reveal very beautiful wind roses, a mirror and at the bottom a magnificent bouquet of flowers. The interior parts are in good condition, the colors shimmering, despite some crimps due to the glue used at the time. The exterior is less fresh but the whole is remarkable for its virtuosity. Early 19th century.
