Pair Of Bergeres In Cabriolet Louis XVI Period

Pair of Louis XVI convertible shepherdesses. Elegant pair of convertible armchairs, Louis XVI period, in green lacquered wood, covered with a grated velvet from the Casal house. Manufactured around the years 1785-90, these two perfectly identical seats present a work of carpentry of good quality with beautiful proportions, they are in molded and carved beech, the woods are covered with an old lacquer in shades of green. This pair of very comfortable seats has a neoclassical architecture with a fluted and rudentures base, the connecting dice are sculpted with 4-leaf rosettes, the front crosspiece of the seat is cut out in a curved arch, the armrest consoles are said to be in cavet and are hollowed out with grooves, they are positioned in alignment with the front legs, the backrest is in the shape of a cabriolet, each upright is topped by bases carved with acanthus leaves which are joined together by a high crosspiece of the backrest drawing a pediment, this particular shape is used in the Louis XVI style, it is a "so-called "hat" arrangement by the Cabinet des Modes of March 1786". In a good state of conservation, these seats are comfortable and offer a very nice patina, the wood present from the usual restorations, the period straps have been preserved, new straps have been passed over to guarantee the seat , the trimmings have been taken up, and the whole has been covered with a grated cherry-colored velvet from Maison Casal.
