Lucien Fontanarosa (1912-1975) Venice Oil on panel signed lower right 27x35 cm Painter, lithographer, illustrator, Lucien Fontanarosa was born in Paris to Italian parents. He entered Lucien Simon's studio as a free student in 1932. In 1936, he won the first Grand Prix de Rome. From 1937 to 1939, he stayed at the Villa Medici and met André Gide. In 1946, he was part of the jury at the Rome competition; in 1955, he was a member of the Institute and, in 1957, he was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor. In 1963, the city of Paris awarded him its vermeil medal. He taught at the École Polytechnique from 1958 to 1972.
