Hieronymus WIERIX Antwerp 1533-1619 Christ, good shepherd. Etching. H284(320)xW199(226)mm. Good condition, some scattered stains, slight creases from handling, old mark of median horizontal crease visible on the back, traces of old mounting. Proof on laid paper, after a drawing by Maarten de Vos (1532-1603) and published by Joannes Baptista Vrints. This work presents Christ crowned with thorns, carrying a lamb on his shoulders, another shepherd and his sheep behind on the left, a chalet on the right. A print similar to ours is in the British Museum (1928,1212.131), and another in the Rijksmuseum (RP-P-1904-1231).
