Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié (June 16, 1735 Paris - September 15, 1784 Paris).
Coming from a family of renowned engravers, Nicolas-Bernard Lépicié studied painting under the direction of Carle van Loo, and in 1759 won second prize at the Prix de Rome.

Approved by the Royal Academy in 1764, with The Descent of William the Conqueror into England (Caen l'Abbaye aux Hommes), Lépicié then painted, in the same vein, The Baptism of Christ (1765), Christ and the Little Children (1767) and The Conversion of Saul (1767).
In 1768, Lépicié painted Adonis changed into an anemone for the Pavillon du Trianon. 1770 is marked by the realization of Narcisse changed into a flower, and the Martyrdom of Saint André as well as the Martyrdom of Saint Denis. In 1769 he was made a member of the Academy and Painter to the King thanks to Achille et le Centaure.
A print by Jean François Rousseau presents the portrait of Lépicié annotated with his title of Professor at the Royal Academy of Painting, which he obtained in 1779. In 1773, he produced for the Military School: Saint Louis rendering justice under an oak tree , and a Descent from the Cross adorning one of the chapels of the Cathedral of Chalon-sur-Saône.
In the last years of his life his painting will take on a more intimate character, approaching the work of Chardin and Greuze. These subjects suggest an artist who is certainly talented but a man of humble and sensitive character.
His works can be seen in
