Jacques Poli is a French painter born in 1938 in Nîmes and died in 2002 in Paris. From 1960 to 1962, Jacques Poli studied at the School of Fine Arts in Avignon, and from 1966 to 1966 at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris in Roger Chastel's studio where his classmates were Claude Viallat, Daniel Buren, Niele Toroni, François Rouan, Vincent Bioulès, Michel Parmentier, Pierre Buraglio and Joël Kermarrec. Jacques Poli will find himself reunited by Gassiot-Talabot with Joël Kermarrec, Hervé Télémaque, Jan Voss among the proponents of narrative figuration, then he will follow his own path. In his early days, Jacques Poli painted with a spray gun on stretched oilcloths. After 1968, the return to painting involving the hand generates periods or series of canvases. The year 1974 is characterized by the use of industrial tools. Next comes the series of “Insects”, then the model of European Baroque architecture, of which he retains only the details. In 1976, he became a professor at the School of Fine Arts in Rouen.
