Important carpet in Senneh gallery in superb condition measuring 118 cm wide by 462 cm long.
Commonly called Kilims, these sumptuous rugs are flat-woven in wool and colored with natural dyes.
These are traditional Kilims originating from the North-West of Iran, very appreciated and coveted with cheerful and fresh colors, and ethnic patterns of regular geometric shapes. The wools used are always of very good quality.
Our model has a rare and exceptional size, its borders and edges are in perfect condition, as well as the complete field of the carpet.
Shades of blue, light beige smoothed with particularly luminous black stand out against a more intense beige background, encrusted with stylized white flowers.
The kilim is a wool rug, woven in low warp, a handcrafted product specific to nomadic Muslim peoples, in particular from Anatolia, Iran and the Caucasus.
The kilim, also spelled klim or kelim (a word of Turkish origin), is a rug with no pile because it is embroidered instead of knotted.
The kilim is made in various cities of Anatolia and Iran. Its name, which comes from the Persian gelim, is used to designate a woolen rug with a flat point found mainly in the Near East, the Caucasus and Central Asia and which was created nearly 10 000 years ago ! Kilims have their meaning.
They emanate a strong identity retracing the memory of the sedentary, nomadic and semi-nomadic peoples who make them.
Astyle, an identity characterizes a tribe, a village: fiery or sober colors, complex or refined patterns depending on the region.
The patterns correspond to an ancestral symbolic writing inherited from shamanistic beliefs.
The geometry of the patterns and their ethnic tone characterize their DNA.
The kilim originally served as an interior stole, blanket or carpet protecting the floor of mosques and yurts. Nowadays,
it can be used on the floor, on the walls, as a sofa throw, as a headboard or as curtains.
