"Fishermen along the canal, Martigues"

Titled on the back by the artist: "N°13 - Abri de pêche, Martigues",

Beautiful work by the Avignon painter Joseph Hurard who represents fishermen repairing their nets along the canal in Martigues.
The artist used a palette of light colors and played on contrasts to represent the shades of color at the end of a summer day.
You can make out the Saint Genest church along the canal.

A pupil of Pierre Grivolas and Charles Vionnet in Avignon, Joseph Hurard exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants from 1908 to 1914 many landscapes, notably of Avignon and Villeneuve-les-Avignon. He joined the Group of Thirteen founded by Clément Brun.
After the First World War, he exhibited in galleries in Marseille. In 1932, he settled in Martigues. site he has been painting since 1913.

Dimensions: 50 x 92 cm without its frame and 65 x 107 cm with its original wooden frame.
