Crumb Collector From The Napoleon III Period In The Style Of The Far East

We offer you this set dating from the end of the 19th century whose iconography is rich in symbols and makes great reference to Japanese culture.

The decoration was made with gilding on a red background, a color symbolizing happiness, peace and prosperity.

The 2 items are decorated with a landscape embellished with bridges, pagodas and stairs, where the deities of happiness walk, each with a characteristic (object or attitude) allowing them to be differentiated: Benzaiten, Bishamonten, Daikokuten, Ebisu, Fukurokuju , Hotei and Jurojin.

The landscape is flown over by a phoenix, which according to Japanese tradition, appears when peace and harmony reign.

This beautiful set, representative of an era and rich in symbolism, was made in France at the end of the 19th century when there was a real craze for the East and the Far East in most artistic fields.

Everything is in good condition, there is a slight wear of the lacquer on the brush which does not affect the golden patterns and a very small lack of lacquer at the bottom of the basket.
