French writer, born in Marseilles, in 1868., companion of Romain Rolland in the rue d'Ulm. He is one of the founders of the "Nouvelle Revue Française". He was hunted down by the Germans during World War II. He is one of the underrated writers of the first half of the 20th century. He influenced the writers of his time and was friends with many painters and musicians of his time. His biographies bring him closer to a French Zweig. Woodcut color illustrations by Jacques Beltrand, printed by Henri Jacob. Good condition.
