On the obverse, the Loire in the form of a vigorous and languid woman; on the reverse, the river encumbered with sandbanks, the bridge and the town of Saumur.

From 1964 to 1977, Despierre produced 32 plaques and 47 bronze or silver medals for the Monnaie de Paris. This is the first he made in 1964.
