Louis Cabié, renowned artist in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great south-west throughout his life. Pupil of Harpignies, whose passion for vegetation is found in the manner of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes until his death. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, bewitching valleys, or even a landscape in are simpler devices than it will be able to raise from a vital contrast.
From 1890, Louis-Alexandre Cabié crossed the banks of the Vézère in all weathers and in different seasons. It was in the town of Eyzies in the Dordogne that he spent most of his time, and where he married his second wife in 1894. Several hundred works were produced on the banks of this river, which are for the majority not located today. This charming format in a beautiful 19th century canal frame was made in the middle of summer on the right bank of the Vézère, illustrating a dry island in the foreground which has now disappeared, and presenting in the background, especially on the right a famous rocks overhanging the road called "route du Buisson", for the town of Buisson-de-Cadouin.
