Pierre-Émile Cornillier (1862-1948) Symbolist French School Angels on the banks of a river, oil on canvas signed and dated 1897 55x34cm (very good condition) Period frame 65c42cm Pierre-Émile Cornillier, born in Nantes on June 21, 1862 and died in Rochefort-en-Terre in 1948, is a French painter and writer. Son of Pierre-Émile Cornillier (1827-1905), deputy mayor of Nantes, and Marie-Joséphine Leroux. He is the uncle of the writer Mireille Havet. He married Anna Lyon, of American nationality, on March 20, 1901 in Paris, in the sixth arrondissement. Pupil of Luc-Olivier Merson, he exhibited for the first time at the Salon of 1885 and sent his works to the Salon of the National Society of Fine Arts until the start of the First World War His studio was at 21 rue Guénégaud in the sixth arrondissement of Paris. Passionate about psychism, he is the author of several works: The Survival of the soul and its evolution after death, reports of experiences, 1920 The Hypothesis of the subconsciousness and the physiological law, 1922 The Prediction of the future, 1926 Contribution to the study of the Mantes phenomenon, 1929 Nantes public collections, museum of fine arts
