Philibert Léon Couturier (Châlons-sur-Saône 1823 - Saint-Quentin 1901) is an animal painter and a famous portrait painter of the 19th century. Born on May 26th, 1823 in Chalon-sur-Saône, this son of vinegar-maker is allowed in the School of Fine Arts of Paris in 1844.
Connected to the School of Barbizon, close friend of Théophile Gautier, he becomes a portrait and animal painter. He is particularly considered as the skill of his art to represent poultry and farmyards. A part of his works is hung in the museums of Chalon-sur-Saône (Denon museum), Saint-Quentin (Antoine Lécuyer museum), Montpelier, Nice, Reims and Poitiers.
