verrerie de Clichy d’enfant flag

Object description :

"verrerie de Clichy d’enfant"
Set of glassware from the Manufacture de Clichy, consisting of a small vase and a goblet with its saucer.

The Cristallerie de CLICHY (1842-1896) first built its notoriety with the vogue for paperweight balls decorated with watermarks and multicolored "millefiori" candies, a production in which it launched in 1846-1847 following the crystal factories Saint Louis and Baccarat.
The scientific knowledge of the director of the crystal factory and the contacts he maintained with the great chemists of that time led the factory to break with traditional glassmaking habits in favor of research into original techniques and raw materials, in order to develop new crystal and coloring compositions.
They introduced important innovations in manufacturing processes, improved the quality and range of products. The crystal factory becomes the most important in France for colored glasses. The luminosity and beauty of Clichy's colors were never equaled, as evidenced by his paperweight balls and other creations from the same period based on baryta crystal.
The Cristallerie de Clichy had more than 300 workers in the 1860s and became the third French crystal factory after Baccarat and Saint Louis.
It ceased all activity in 1871 during the Franco-Prussian War. Upon recovery, the crystal factory specializes in table services: liquor services, "muslin glasses" with high quality cut and engraved decorations.
In 1881, Amédée Maës for family and financial reasons decided to rent the crystal factory to that of Sèvres in agreement with his brother. The sale formed in 1889: the Cristalleries de Sèvres and Clichy united. From 1890, we only speak of Cristallerie de Clichy.
Around 1896, the activity was greatly slowed down following economic difficulties and a fire. It continued until 1932 before being absorbed by the Cristalleries de Choisy le Roi.
The objects made at the Cristallerie de Clichy are not signed but labelled. Some millefiori are signed in the mass.
