A Carved White Marble Bust Of The Young Augustus. 19th Century.
A carved white Carrara marble bust of the young Augustus, after the antique bust in the Galleria dei Busti of the Museo Pio-Clementino at the Vatican (no 714).
On a waisted circular socle.
Italie, second half of the 19th century.
hight: 55 cm X Width: 30 cm.
The bust depicts the young Octavian (later Augustus Caesar) presumably at the time of the death of his adopted father Julius Caesar. Very well carved and with great and harmonious detail the figure conveys the tenderness as well as the determination of the young man later to become Rome’s first emperor.
