Michel KOROCHANSKY (1866-1925) Portrait of a symbolist woman Oil on canvas signed lower right 27x20cm 40x33cm Mardoché Léon Kharchansky, known as Michel Korochansky, born February 25, 1866 in Odessa and died in Montigny-sur-Loing on June 26, 1925 is a French painter, of Russian-Ukrainian origin. the Académie Julian, he studied under William Bougereau and Tony Robert-Fleury; he exhibited at the Salon from 1887. A friend of the painter Numa François Gillet, he discovered and moved to Montigny-sur-Loing, where their daughter Christiane was born, who would also become a painter. He obtained French nationality in 1906. At the Salon des Artistes Français of 1910, he obtained an honorable mention. He died on June 26, 1925 in Montigny-sur-Loing.
