Marquetry Commode In The Style Of Jean Henri Riesener
Artist: Riesener
Beautiful chest of drawers in marquetry called "à la Reine" opening with four drawers in front, two of which without crosspieces. The sides are curved, the facade has a central projection inlaid with braces. The front uprights are in half column with rudent grooves and are terminated by tapered legs with sides adorned with projecting gadroons and chased bronze shoes. The lower plinth is underlined by a large gilt bronze baguette rounded on the corners and abundantly garnished with splendid chiseled and gilded bronzes with intertwined and openwork leaf motifs, while the upper part presents in the center an inlaid scene depicting putti astronomers. These rare and precious decorative elements are comparable to those present on the famous works of Jean Henri RIESENER and highlight the powerful decorative effect of this piece of furniture at support height. Jean Henri RIESENER (born July 4, 1734 in Gladbeck, Westphalia, and died in Paris on January 6, 1806) was Marie-Antoinette's favorite cabinetmaker, Riesener is the undisputed master of Louis XVI furniture. The top is a magnificent molded marble of the "peach blossom" type.
