Sakyamuni Buddha, Gilt Bronze, Thailand, Rattanakosin, 19th Century
Shakyamuni Buddha in gilded bronze made during the Rattanakosin period but in the style of the sculptures of the kingdom of Sukhothai (14th-16th century). The Buddha is depicted in the lotus position, hands making the gesture of Bhumisparsha, or calling the earth to witness. The figure is of a particular style with thick gilding, partially preserved, on a black laka base. Thailand, Rattanakosin, 19th century (1st half?). Height 33 cm, width 22 cm, depth 13 cm.
