A Louis XIV Large Tax-box Early 18th Century.

Large tax-box with brass cladding in imitation of tortoiseshell, reinforced on all sides with a checkerboard frame of beaten iron, polished and studded, on a pine core. Slightly domed rectangular shape, our cassette is provided with two false locks, with slatted and clapped in metal, enhanced with gold matching the spandrels of the lid in order to attract attention, in front and in the central part of the lid. The opening is locked by two side locks with slaps, less conspicuous blending into the decor, these must be operated simultaneously in order to complicate the opening. Both in interior side rabbets, condemned by mobile hooks located on the side edge of each side of the cover. A drooping bilobed metal handle makes it easy to grip; this juxtaposed with the fake lock of the lid. At the four interior corners, holes made it possible to aim this cassette on the exchange table of the collector. Work from the beginning of the 18th century, a period when the decorative arts are still very influenced by the so-called Louis-quatorzien style where the perfect symmetry of the motifs remains cardinal value. It should be noted a slight lack of material on the left front spandrel. Dimension: width 42.8cm, depth 29.4cm and height 16.5cm.
