Many masks are used in ceremonies, used in different competitions; the masks are the spirits of the bush and not their representatives. Numerous in their diversity, Dan masks are called Guégo, "head mask". Ends generic Glé (Gluu in the southwest) designates any character who wears it. He, he Glé, embodied the spiritual strength that inhabits the forest and wants to participate in the life of the village. The bearer and his owner enjoy a very high status in the village hierarchy. Their presence during the ceremony resolves conflicts that cannot be resolved by the village chief. Anyone who does not respect the masks is committing a serious crime against their society and religion. Dan's masks have various hierarchies and functions in ceremonies:
