Student at the School of Fine Arts in Mareille, Alphonse Moutte was a pupil of Emile Loubon. He then worked in Paris in the studio of Ernest Meissonnier. Back in the south, he draws inspiration from the landscapes that surround him, his city and his region are his main subjects of inspiration.
He became a prominent personality and painted portraits, genre scenes, views of the port of Marseille... He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français and was named a member of the Academy of Marseilles in 1892.
