Object description :

"Chest Of Drawers Lxv Baroque. 18th Century Holland"
Rare 18th century Dutch chest of drawers opening with 4 drawers with domed front and increasing size having retained all its original handles and keyholes. The entire piece of furniture is covered with a delicate floral marquetry in light wood standing out from a burl walnut background. Exceptional top with scalloped edge ending in a corbin's beak molding and presenting a very rich marquetry of flowered vase, birds, foliage and intertwined foliage. It rests on front legs in lion claws supported on a ball. All the fonçures of the 4 drawers are in oak. This chest of drawers is typical of the finest Dutch furniture of the time. The technique of floral marquetry was developed in Antwerp at the beginning of the 16th century and then introduced to France by the Flemish Pierre Gole and his son-in-law André Charles Boulle who founded a dynasty of royal and Parisian cabinetmakers supplying the court of LXIV.
