"Japanese Signed Netsuke, Carved In Vegetable Ivory - Tagua Nut"
Original Japanese Netsuke with signature, in vegetable Ivory, better known as Tagua nut.
Do you know what a Netsuke is? They are small traditional Japanese sculptures, whose origin probably dates back to the 15th century, they were commonly used as clip to secure small containers or objects to the Kimono belt.
Each netsuke has two small holes (in this case they have been cleverly hidden among the chelicerae) in these spaced passed a silk cord, that secured the Netsuke to the kimono.
