"A Louis XVI Neoclassical Mirror Of The Young Girl 18th Century, Circa 1781."
Neoclassical mirror said to the young girl from the Louis XVI period around 1781. Elegant neoclassical mirror from the Louis XVI period in linden wood carved and gilded with leaf and treated with burnished and amati; it is divided into two distinct parts, an upper part, the pediment and a lower part mainly encasing the mirror. The pediment of trilateral pyramidal shape. It is decorated in the middle part with a miniature representing the portrait of a young girl with blue eyes wearing a cap in an ovoid frame. On both sides, from which escape windings of foliage punctuated with wreaths of daisies. The whole is topped with a ribbon waving in deep hollow waves. The main part, the second in the form of a quadrilateral rectangle encases the mirror. This is made up at the periphery of a strip with double flat profiles, adorned with flat strips flanked by connecting square quadrilaterals hollowed out with vertical grooves at each of its angles. Alternate streaks of pearls run on the inner periphery; the whole resting of parts and others on two symmetrical bases of stylized pine trees, both with the hatched reparure in diamonds. Laterally, outside the vertical ends of the divergent garlands emerge; laurel twigs, all emerging from the ends of the scrapers. A stylized vase also hollowed out with fluting, topped with a wolf-tooth crown unifies the two parts, giving the whole a homogeneous look. The ice consists of a flat glass plate lined with tin and lead immersed in a mercury bath in order to dissolve them there. The tin associated with the lead then giving this warm and luminous side to the mirror called "mercury". It should be noted that the presence of a miniature representing the portrait of a young girl, indicates to us that this mirror was probably formerly intended for the bedroom of one of the young girls of the house, an unusual detail. Observation: This mirror is in a very good state of conservation known as of house, it should be noted the tin of the mirror is slightly pitted and that the pediment tends slightly towards the interior but completely of time; of course the mercury mirror is also original.
