In 1938, he arrived in Paris with Endre Rozsda where they explored together the world of surrealism. Barta is increasingly interested in the ideas of the Abstraction-Creation group and their commitment to abstraction. Lajos Barta, Bad Godesberg, 1966 Quickly led to lead an underground existence during the Second World War, the two friends left Paris and returned to Budapest in early 1943. They participated in the European School between 1945 and 1948 and jointly organized the group's exhibitions. After the repression of the Hungarian uprising in October 1956, Rozsda settled permanently in Paris. Lajos Barta remained in Hungary until 1965, emigrated to Germany and then settled in Cologne. From May 30 to September 22, 2019, the Kiscelli Museum presents an exceptional selection of works by Lajos Barta in an exhibition entitled: "The strategies for survival".
