"Emmanuel Villanis "
Large bronze statue from 1900 signed Villanis, titled: “Prize de Corsaire”. Presence of the cast iron stamp of the Société des Bronzes de Paris (main publisher of this sculptor) monogrammed and numbered. Beautiful condition, original polychrome patina. Emmanuel Villanis was born in Lille in 1854. In 1860 his family left France for Italy, it was in Turin (probably around 1870) that he learned sculpture with Odoardo Tabacchi, his first works were exhibited in Milan, Rome and Turin between 1881 and 1884. Upon his return to France in 1886 he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français. His models, mainly female subjects, are inspired by the Orient, the Bible or the opera and are marked with the Art-Nouveau spirit, he will be active until his death in 1914.
