" Bronze Tank Top - Nelson"
The tank top, bronze sculpture by Joseph-Antoine (pseudonym Nelson) Van Den Kerckhove (Brussels 1849-1910) produced towards the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century. Probably executed by the Compagnie des Bronzes de Bruxelles. Joseph-Antoine (pseudonym Nelson) was born into a family of sculptors. His father Augustin (pseudonym Sabias, 1825-1895), his uncle Louis (1814-1875), his great-uncle Jean-François (1815-1885), his nephew Godefroid (1841-1913) and his sister Hortense will have dedicated their existence to sculpture. Joseph-Antoine trained in his father's studio and at the Brussels Academy. From 1890 to 1910, he worked in Paris and lived for a while in London. The many busts of pretty young ladies date from this period. Collaborates in the decoration of the Palais de la Bourse in Brussels. The monument to CJ Chapuis, in Verviers, is by his hand, as well as the epitaph to Laure Hazeur; at the Woluwé-Saint-Pierre cemetery. He usually signs A. Nelson; sometimes Jos A. VDK. Nelson.
