"Beautiful Wall Console With Four Legs In Golden Wood. Genoa, Italy, 1740-1750."
The polychrome marble top (“Grigio Bardiglio” marble and “Pescofiorito” marble) rests on four powerful and sinuous legs sculpted in opposite “C” shapes, “pelacce”, flower clusters and leafy elements. The central crosspiece is carved with curved and counter-curved decorations. The belt that adorns the three sides of the console forms elegant moldings and is decorated with volutes, opposite “pelacce” and “C”. The feet end in a loop and rest on as many loop elements. Original gilding. These rare and precious consoles were ordered by the wealthiest families in the city of Genoa. A very similar example is kept at the Museo di Palazzo Reale in Genoa.
