Object description :

"Oil On Canvas Painting Henry Pierre Picou"
Oil On Canvas by Henry Pierre Picou dated 1859, renaissance style painting representing Venus Cupid and Bacchus. The erotic scene represents Venus and Cupid her son holding hands, Cupid him blindfolded and no longer having arrows and Venus with an uncovered breast. Venus holding on the other side an amphora connected to a cherub Bacchus also called Dionysus in ancient Greece. We can see that Bacchus bears the marks of drunkenness with those red cheeks and his empty cup, all in a twisted gait. Bacchus and the amphora are there for the feast and the wine and Cupid for love. This painting is an allegory of blind love and lust. Painting that belonged to the famous Paris gallery "Durand-Ruel" at the time of its creator. Canvas mounted on a magnificent large rectangular frame in stuccoed and gilded wood in the style (Empire or Louis XVI or Restoration), with a gap in the lower left corner. The canvas is in good condition, it has a period restoration as shown on the photo of the back of the canvas. Frame dimensions: 80x93cm Canvas dimensions: 54x65cm
