Oil On Canvas flag

Object description :

"Oil On Canvas "
This "Interior with a mirror" or "Still life with a carafe" is signed MARIE FOTIADIS. Painter from Marseille at the end of the 19th century and first quarter of the 20th century. Daughter of the orientalist painter Alexandre Fotiadis. The paintings of Marie Fotiadis can be found in the museums of Fine Arts in the south of France, in Digne, Marseille, Cassis. It is cited in contemporary painters who have valued Provence. His still life with flowers & fruits exhibited at the Gassendi museum in Digne is a reference of this transition from classical painting from the 19th century to the impressionists. This very beautiful interior painting in the 19th century style was painted around 1900… A touch of great refinement for this composition which, from the foreground takes you into the mirror. The mirror in the background suggests a room in semi-darkness by playing on transparency. The three elements in the foreground, the wine carafe, the silver sugar bowl and the porcelain pot with floral decoration, are painted with a surprising realism of light and shadow. The twentieth frame fits perfectly into the perspective of the mirror. Very nice recent restoration work for this canvas which has been mounted (doubled) on a new canvas to regain its tension and fix it in time. Measures with frame 90x70 Measures without frame 72x 53
