"Photograph Of Beken Of Cowes Steam Boat “orinoco”"
Beken of Cowes is a photo caption. The living memory of sailboat photographers. Alfred Edward Beken, originally from Canterbury in Kent, moved to the Isle of Wight in 1888 with his son Frank and bought a pharmacy in the small harbor of Cowes, famous for its international regattas. Frank started taking pictures and then selling them from the drugstore. In the 1930s, his son Keith began to take pictures himself. In 1970, upon Frank's death, the pharmacy was sold and the “Beken of Cowes” was established. Her father and grandfather tirelessly photographed the most beautiful sailing ships in the world.
