Diptyque AJ Chantron 72,5 X 60 - XIX

This singular and very rare diptych is part of a batch of six portraits of nuns ( sold by two), all apparently from the same congregation of Bénédictine ( see the silver hammered heart that all wear as well as the tricolor knot ) signed by three different painters including a German and dated between 1911 and 1953 -
The first batch here of two large portraits is signed respectively A J Chantron 1911 and Mte Le Ricolais ( The first having a beautiful coast in the Bénézit )-

There was a bold architect and painter named Robert Le Ricolais ( 1894 1977 ) who was indeed a member of the Union of Modern Artists, such as Guévrékian, Pingusson, Roux, Perriand,-

This architect, mathematician, painter, poet, friend of René Guy Cadou lived in Nantes for several years before going into exile to teach in the United States.
The inventor of new forms, structures and static calculations, Robert Le Ricolais is the father of space structures.

His ideas influenced the greatest architects.

He also always painted and drew a lot. In Paris, in the tradition of constructivist paintersIn Paris, in the tradition of constructivist painters; in Nantes, where he sketches the atmosphere of the brothels of the quai de la Fosse; in Orvault, where he loves to walk in the countryside, where a multitude of small drawings in Indian ink will be born. The Nantes Art Museum has some of its paintings.

Alexandre Jacques Chantron -

(1842 - 1918) Alexandre-Jacques Chantron, born in Nantes on January 28, 1842 and died in 1918, is a French artist-painter. - He is a student of François-Édouard Picot, William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury at the École des beaux-arts de Paris. Mostly portraits and still lifes. Later, he painted nudes in the line of Bouguereau, a theme that he continued to develop while experimenting with the new medium of photography2.

in 1899, then a second-class medal in 1902 for his painting Feuilles Mortes! , a composition with symbolist accents 3,4 -
Present in many provincial museums such as Nantes, St Brieuc, Le Mans, Calais -
