"A Louis XV Console Mid 18th Century Circa 1745-1750"
Louis XV period wall console in finely carved, molded and waxed linden wood. Curved in shape, its belt is full of curves and sinuous counter-curves elegantly openwork on all its faces. It rests on two feet with double curved inverted windings, joined by a recessed spacer also perforated. Belt and spacer are centered in a large asymmetrical rockery openwork with powerful garlands of flowers and foliage. As beautiful as it is harmonious, this high-quality console is crisscrossed with fine sculptures of great density composed of a succession of rockeries, staples, acanthus, flowers, leaves and pigtails; all punctuated by powerful voluble windings. The whole is topped with a sheet of light royal red marble veined with white, where a corbin's beak runs around the periphery, marrying its slenderness. It should be noted that great care has been taken with connecting elements of impeccable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this console, very representative of the rocaille period. We find in this piece of furniture all the beautiful ornaments as elegant as refined from the rocaille period; period when the exuberance of pleasure was the resonance of the court of the king of France; under the influence of the Marquise de Pompadour, favorite of the King. Madame la Marquise being recognized as having been the patron and ambassador of the arts and letters, which made French taste; the cornerstone of the decorative arts of this mid-18th century. Observation: The period marble sheet was the subject of an old restoration, carried out in the rules of art. Dimensions Width 119cm, Depth 59cm, Height 84.5cm.
