The valley of Saint Guénolé, Pont-Aven Winter 1898 - 1899 Oil on canvas, 38 × 55 cm POZIER JACINTHE was born on June 3, 1844 at 93 quai de Valmy in Paris, he has two brothers, from a wealthy family. His father provided him with a classical education. He was admitted to the Imperial Bonaparte High School, renamed in 1870 the Lycée Condorcet; his comrade Emile Renouf who will initiate painting. At that time, the Pozier family spent the holidays in Honfleur. To improve his emerging passion for painting, he entered the Académie Julian, attended by only twenty students. He was therefore very comfortable at that time taking advantage of the corrections made by Gustave Boulanger and Jules Lefebvre. Of a pleasant character, he quickly sympathizes with students and teachers. His father pushed him to return to the Ministry of Public Works as a surveyor to ensure him regular income. he will climb all the levels and end up as a 1st class surveyor on the Paris map. His friendship with Marius Gourdault dates from this time. Passionate about classical music, admirers of Beethoven, Gluck, Mozart he went with his friend Renouf almost every Sunday to applaud the works at the Pasdeloup concerts. Every Tuesday, the two friends met in the countryside at Jacinthe's parents' house in Éragny-sur-Epte in the Oise region, about two hours distant from Paris by rail. The family home of Jacinthe Pozier was near the "La Pommeraie" remains acquired by Camille Pissarro in 1884 thanks to a financial loan from Claude Monet. The work of Pissarro will have a great influence on Pozier who admired his work, they date for several years, nevertheless the two men have radically opposite political ideas, after 1899 and probably because of the positions of Pissarro in the Dreyfus Affair who deeply divided French society at the time, the two men cordially avoided each other. He retired at 55 in 1898. He died in 1915 at the age of 71 saddened by the war and the death of his son in Verdun a few months earlier. He is buried in Eragny sur Epte, the cradle of his family. The background of Jacinthe Pozier's workshop, around fifty paintings will be sold eleven years after his death on February 8, 1926 at the Drouot auction house by master Henry Baudoin.
