"Table Oil On Canvas Port Breton Scene By Didier Tourné Dated 1911"
French work, dated 1911 Oil on canvas representing a Breton port scene with many characters, by artist Jean Didier Tourné 1882-1967. Re-canvased work in Art Nouveau style frame. Biography: Jean Didier-Tourné is a painter, engraver, lithographer, illustrator, decorator and fresco artist, born in Agen in 1882 and died in 1967. Jean-Émile-Marie-Didier Tourné graduated from the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, where he received instruction from Fernand Cormon. In 1909, he received the first second Grand Prix of Rome with the compulsory subject "Ceres giving life to a child" 1. At the end of his studies at the Beaux-Arts, he took as artist name the name of Jean Didier-Tourné, associating his last first name with his family name in order to avoid any confusion with other painters with close surnames . He exhibited regularly at the Salon of French artists, where he received in particular a 3rd class medal in 1912. It was in 1931 that he was awarded the gold medal, with a large canvas depicting Amazons returning from hunting. On August 17, 1933, the State acquired its oil on canvas: Le rideau2. The theater of Agen, his hometown, ordered his interior decoration. He participates in the decorations of the City Hall of Sceaux. In 1935, the city of Paris ordered him a decorative panel, La Pastorale. He set up his workshop near Montparnasse in the 15th arrondissement, at 9, rue Falguière. He maintained friendly relations with his colleagues of figurative spirit, like Suzanne Morel-Montreuil and her husband Marcel Montreuil. The art of Jean Didier-Tourné is turned towards a realistic and monumental expression, but he also confides in intimate works, close to the expressionist Montparnasse between the two wars. Awards 1909 / 1st Second Grand Prix of Rome / "Ceres giving life to a child" 1. Gabriel Ferrier Prize. 1912 / 3rd class medal at the Salon des Artistes français 1920 / James Bertrand Prize (the same year as his colleague Émilien-Victor Barthélémy3). 1930 / J.Peccord Prize. 1931 / Gold Medal at the Salon of French Artists. 1935 / Fernand Cormon Prize. 1937 / Silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Main works Amazons on the return from hunting, oil on canvas, 1931 / gold medal at the Salon. Le Rideau, oil on canvas, acquired by the State in August 19332.
