"An Exceptional Alcove Cartel In Flower Marquetry "
An exceptional cartel alcove animated form marquetry of flowers "five colors", with brass background forming arabesques. The console and the upper part are in one piece. This cartel is highlighted by bronzes gilded and chiseled: the lower part is decorated with a staple in its center framed by rushes extending on palmettes. The upper part including the movement is embellished with foliage beaded on both sides of a decorative frieze. The central part opens on a door embellished by a decorative motif surmounted by a rooster and a lion. The upper part of the central body is embellished with four Spanish plumets. The whole is overshadowed by a tarred garland adorned in the middle by a stylized foliage palmette supporting a flower vase. The movement is drawn to indicate hours, quarters and halves. The guilloché bronze dial is engraved with Arabic numerals indicating the minutes and for the hours of enamelled plates with Roman numerals. Blued steel hands; the big needle is composed of arabesque and the small needle represents a stylized fleur-de-lis. The movement is signed on the back of "JP Champion", it is probably Isidore William Champion (1687-1765). Regency Period Restorations H. 48 x L. 20 x P. 13 cm
