The Celebrated trotting Stallion Ethan Allen in double harness. Lithograph published by Currier and Ives in New York, 125 Nassau Street. Drawing by J. Cameron. Hand colored. Never framed, beautiful impression, beautiful colors, two central folds. Dimensions of the paper 17"5/8 by 13"3/8. Late 19th century.
This print illustrates a famous sulky race that took place in 1867 on Long Island, New York. Following an incredible race with nearly 40,000 spectators, the equine Ethan Allen led his Dan Mace driver to victory, defeating the invincible Dexter.
