"Auguste Jean, Pair Of Vases Etched And Enamelled Glass, Japonisme, 1880"
Pair of naturalist vases, colored glass, on 3 feet, blown and tools hot worked, translucent blue background, high border pinched, feet and garlands amethyst glass are stretched and heat-welded on the blown blue glass. Japanonist decoration, on three alternating panels of Japanese ideograms, insects, flowers and birds with wings spread enamelled and gilt with rich colors. Blowing pontil sealed with a glass macaroon squared below. Each vase bears No. 87 in gold.
Dimensions: height 30cm x diameter 18cm.
Unsigned, it is indisputably a pair of glassware by Auguste Jean, circa 1880 Condition: almost perfect, no breakage, no splinters or restoration, but, a crack, probably the cooling of one of the 6 welded draperies hot.
