Hemba people, Democratic Republic of Congo, first half of the 20th century, superb wooden sculpture depicting a hieratic female character represented standing on a circular base. The body is treated in salient volumes. The legs are short. Arms bent, hands on shoulders. The face with half-closed eyes reveals the expression of intense interiority. Good condition except for traces of old erosions and wear, without affecting the aesthetics and contributing to the beauty of this piece. Height 27.8 cm. Total height with its independent base of recent manufacture 33 cm.
