China, MING period (1368-1644)
Stunning & rare pair of bronze Fo dogs (dragon guards), with double green / oxidized and golden patina, on an elegant black marble base, without veins and very sober, bringing out the gilding.

"The Fô Dogs, also called Chinese or Imperial Guardian Lions, are an architectural ornament typical in Chinese tradition. They served as sentries at the entrance to palaces, temples and elite houses. They are symbolic and protective statues. A Foo dog is therefore protection and wealth symbol."

Dimensions 7*6*2cm for each dragon and 19.5*5*2.5cm for the base
Very nice showcase object for archaeological collection, these 2 Fo dogs were certainly presented at the entrance of a small temple.
