Pavel Akimovich OVTCHINNIKOV or OVTCHINIKOFF (1830-1888)
Serf of Prince Volkonski, Pavel Ovtchinnikov stood out very early for his gifts for drawing and painting. Freed for the quality of his work, he married and founded his own studio in 1850. In 1865, he participated in an exhibition in Moscow, during which he was awarded for his work. Noticed by the future Alexander III, he was then appointed official supplier to the imperial court. Subsequently, his reputation continues to grow, even winning abroad. On his death in 1888, his estate was taken over by his sons Pavel, Mikhail, Nikolai and Alexander. Pavel Ovtchinnikov is the grandfather of Irene Ovtchinnikova, wife of Prince Peter of Greece. The goldsmith's house founded in 1853 in Moscow by Pavel Ovtchinnikov was, with Fabergé, the most important in Russia. She survived until the Revolution. A branch was opened in St. Petersburg in 1873.
