Pitcher Barbotine

French Barbotine majolica water pitcher, made by Onnaing, circa 1920. Known as the "Cochon au Jambon", the pig is crowned with a bay leaf, a ribbon is tied to its chest, and it holds a cooked ham on a rope. The handle takes up the pattern of the bay leaf. A parody on taking a pig to the market, this pig takes a cooked ham to the market. Onnaing earthenware is a ceramic production that developed between 1821 and 1938 in the town of Onnaing, Nord department.
