This Madonna and Child is attributable to the workshop of Paolo de Matteis (Naples 1662 -1728) due to the stylistic characteristics, you can see the eyes and hands of the figures, the fat and the system of tones. Paolo de Matteis was born in Piano del Cilento in 1662. In Naples, where he moved very young, he came into contact with Luca Giordano. Later, he went to Rome where, thanks to the Marquis del Carpio, ambassador of the King of Spain, he was introduced to the artistic life of the Capitol and had access to the Academy. From this period, the Allegory of the Arts is kept at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. He returned to Naples in 1683, when del Carpio was appointed viceroy. Between 1690 and 1697 he painted the frescoes of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Pizzofalcone, San Ferdinando, in the Gesù Nuovo, and the painting of the Madonna del Carmine giving the scapular to St. Simon Stock for Santa Teresa agli Studi. In 1699 he decorated the ceiling of the pharmacy of San Martino. For the modernity of his painting, he was called to Paris, where he stayed between 1702 and 1705, performing prestigious works. He returned to Rome in 1723, and finally to Naples, where he died in 1728.
