Object description :

"Adrien-henri Gillot : "the Ramparts Of Mazagan""
Adrien-Henri Gillot (1883-1948): "Mazagan", oil on canvas board 22 X 27 cm, signed, located and dated 1926, mounted in a gilt Regency style frame 38 X 43 cm. Painter and professor of drawing at the Beaux-Arts de Paris who was in Paris a pupil of Léon Bonnat and Luc-Olivier Merson and who, before joining Morocco which became his chosen land, stopped en route in the Landes then in the Basque Country whose few sketches he left us make us want to know more... (See our views of Mimizan) Here, this view of the ramparts of Mazagan (the former name of El Jadida, city founded by the Portuguese on the Atlantic coast of Morocco) from the other side of the bay shows them splashed with sun and standing out against a uniformly blue sky in front of a foreground of the foreshore… Do not hesitate to ask us for photos or additional information by email or telephone. In partnership with Galerie Lafouresse, we specialize in paintings on the Basque Country, the Landes and the Bassin d'Arcachon.
