"Large Ceramic Dish From Vallauris Signed A Kostanda Vintage Middle Twentieth"
Very nice Vallauris ceramic dish signed by Alexandre Kostanda. Beautiful floral representation typical of its production: Les Jonquilles It is in perfect condition and of a beautiful size 40 cm Alexandre Kostanda: Apprentice at Louis Giraud in Vallauris in 1936, he teaches ceramics in Biot. He settled in Cluny, in Saône-et-Loire in 1942. In 1949, he returned to Vallauris to take over the management of Louis Giraud's studio. Alexandre Kostanda founded his own workshop in 1953. He was one of the ceramists who organized the Vallauris International Ceramics Biennale in 1968. His production, sensual and plastic at its beginnings, evolves towards a more refined ceramic, with floral or abstract motifs. The decorations are often painted by his mother Irène, a former decorator "at Ripolin" at Giraud. In Vallauris, despite the shimmering colors of local ceramics, Alexandre Kostanda retains a predilection for muted colours, close to the natural shades of clay. Its ceramic, with a rustic appearance, surprises with the delicacy of its craftsmanship and the balance of its proportions, revealing the exceptional technical mastery of Kostanda.
