A Louis XVI Console With Four Legs, 18th Century Circa 1780 flag

Object description :

"A Louis XVI Console With Four Legs, 18th Century Circa 1780"
Half-moon console table with four legs in molded, carved, lacquered and gilded linden wood with entablature of marble in white veined Carrara. The curved belt is sculpted on its three sides. Its decor, which is as elegant as it is homogeneous, is made up of large and opulent garlands of plants as well as Greek-style pearl stripes with finely cut grooves. The main crosspiece is embellished with a winding of acanthus leaves in its middle part projecting outward forming a cul-de-lampe. Vertical rectangular connection blocks extend the visual harmony by unifying the belt and the base. This is made up of four diverging legs, the front ones slightly tightened in order to perpetuate the overhang of the marble, the straight hind legs flat against the wall. Each tapered with deep rudent grooves, strangled in their tops pinched at their bases. The connection of the base and the belt is ensured by connecting dice of vertical rectangular shape centered with sunflower flowers. The whole is topped with a sheet of white veined marble from Carrara with sharp sides with a recess where a molding runs along the groove following the frame. It is worth noting the great care given to the linking elements of irreproachable quality. Balance, nervousness, elegance and quality are the most appropriate terms for this very representative console of the so-called neoclassical period. We find there all the beautiful ornaments as elegant as they are refined from this period strongly influenced by the excavations of Herculaneum and Pompeii which influenced the decorative arts of the reign of Louis XVI. Work of the second part of the reign of Louis XVI around 1780. Observations: Excellent condition, restorations of use and maintenance such as; repairs and cleaning of gilding and lacquer.
