Object description :

"Old Mythology Landscape Painting Vice And Virtue Pegasus Sv. The Carracci 17th Baroque Ulysse "
Charming old Italian painting, around 1650, oil on canvas representing a scene from Greek mythology: "Hercules' choice, between virtue and vice", inspired by the apologue of Prodicos. Very animated, our painting represents Minerva pointing to Hercules hesitating, the path of virtue, symbolized by Pegasus (also emblem of the Farnese family) at the top of a hill. In the foreground, 3 scattered putti frame the different parts of the composition. Some wear and small restorations, in an Empire period frame in gilded wood. Very beautiful allegorical theme Total dimensions 59 cm x 50 cm, canvas only 43 cm x 34 cm
