Small painting representing the return of the prodigal son according to a parable of Christ in the gospels. The scene takes place in the courtyard of a bourgeois house and describes the arrival of the prodigal son in his family after years of wandering, he is kneeling in front of his father who welcomes him warmly, his brother and another man are standing behind accompanied by servants and a dog. A servant comes down a staircase with what appears to be clothes. A woman probably his mother stands at a window and a child walks towards the son with outstretched arms. Oil on canvas mounted on walnut panel. 17th century period. 17th century Italian style gilded wood frame from the 19th century.
